Empowerment involves someone else becoming more powerful than they actually are. When we build personal empowerment, we take the time to reflect on all sorts of personal skills, goals, and values, as well as preparing ourselves to adjust our behavior in a way that enables us to achieve our goals. Additionally, it also helps us become aware that others have their own specific sets of goals and values that may differ from our own.
Here are three dimensions of personal empowerment that will help you in your daily life:
Skills These are typically the main resource that allow an individual to achieve the goals that they want to reach. All sorts of skills can be obtained through the following:
*Experience *Practice *Education *Training
Values can end up getting translated into action when an individual develops these types of skills.
Goals Being able to take charge of your life involves setting specific goals for yourself. Take the time to think about both the direction and values that you would like to see your life follow. At the same time, however, you should always make sure that all of your goals are both specific and realistic in nature.
Information This is something that is absolutely necessary in order to develop both skills and self-awareness. Being able to know where you can find specific information is also an essential skill that you can work to develop. If you don’t have any information, you will find that all of your choices are rather limited in scope.
