Throughout your day-to-day, do you find yourself noticing the positive in your life, or do you find yourself ruminating on negativity and life’s inconveniences? It’s easy to focus on the negative. Maybe you woke up late and you had to skip breakfast to make it to work on time, or perhaps you got into a disagreement with a co-worker or significant other. Whatever it may be that went “wrong” during your day, do you let it define your entire day? Do you see a pattern where most days you seem to be having a no-good awful day?
While some days are worse than others, there is always joy to be found in everyday life. Yes, even on the truly bad days. One of the secrets to find that joy in each and everyday, is to actively keep an eye out for it. You can find joy in everyday life.
Think about your day yesterday or today. You may be able to think of a million bad things that happened, but can you think of one good thing? No matter how small, it counts! Maybe it was a hug and “I love you!” from a child or significant other. Maybe it was an after dinner sweet treat. Maybe it’s the fact that you woke up with a roof over your head! Even the simplest of things can be a source of joy.
Throughout your day, actively look for joy in the moment. And once you find it, take the time to savor the happiness and savor the joy, minute by minute. Take an extra few seconds to lay in bed and enjoy the warmth of the covers. Savor having your family around the table for dinner. Savor your furry family members head in your lap, or the excitement on their face when you walk through the door after a long day of work.
In these small moments is where you can find the joy of everyday. Take that feeling and see how you can apply it throughout the day, in even the smallest of ways. Soon, you’ll see that there is as much joy (if not more joy!) than there are negatives in life.
Don’t feel like you have to wait for the perfect moment to be happy or to find joy. You don’t have to wait until the weekend, or your birthday, or your favorite holiday to celebrate the happy little moments in life.
No matter what may be happening around you at the moment, know that you are able to find happiness, and that finding that joy and happiness will make you far more productive and attract more positive energy and emotion than looking for negative. Honey is better than vinegar, and by shifting the way you think and your overall focus, you will find a change in your perspective in the process. You may even be able to change life itself.
