Even though the concept of self-care isn’t exactly new, the fact is that it’s something that has become increasingly popular in recent years. In fact, mental health advocates often advise other to have good self-care practices; however, actually implementing self-care into your normal routine is something that is often much easier said than done.

Here are three new year self-care practices to consider trying.

*First and foremost, perhaps one of the best new year self-care practices to try is to be more positive. In other words, do everything that you can in order to maintain a more positive attitude. In the event that you are struggling with negative thoughts, consider a step such as keeping a gratitude log, which is something that can help you fight off negative energy. All you have to do is simply stop telling yourself what you aren’t able to do and begin writing down both what you can and will do.

*Another of the best new year self-care practices to try is to make your overall health a priority before you end up getting sick. Oftentimes, self-care involves doing all of the things that you may not want to do, but that you know are important to your general well-being. This includes going to see your doctor. Generally, people can end up neglecting their physical and mental health, especially during periods that are stressful; however, these are times in which you should value your well-being the most. This means that you should stop waiting for yourself to end up getting sick before you end up starting to care about your health and instead make your health a priority.

*One other new year self-care practice to try is to treat yourself. Is there a special pair of shoes that you’ve had your eye on, a dinner that you’ve wanted to eat somewhere, or a certain product that you’ve wanted to buy just for yourself? Whatever it may be, don’t hesitate to indulge once in a while. Treating yourself is something that should never always be a luxury. If you don’t want to spend any money, you can also simply read a book or bake cookies. The most important thing to remember is that there is never a right or wrong way to show affection to yourself.
